Some days can be fairly humdrum, even, I’d hazard, in the world of madcap comedy The Play That Goes Wrong. Sunday 12 April 2015 was not one of those days.
On that day, the cast and crew had to perform a matinee and everything that goes with it as usual, from preparing for the show and warming up to rushed scene changes and backstage craziness.
Unlike any other Sunday, they then had to swiftly don their gladest of rags to head to the Olivier Awards 2015 with MasterCard, where they were nominated for the Best New Comedy Award. As fate, and the Olivier Awards voters would have it, they won.
What would such a day be like? Silly if cast member Nancy Wallinger’s photos are anything to go by. From normally hidden beauty treatments to ridiculous gurning on the red carpet, she charts an Oliviers day in the life of The Play That Goes Wrong in this photo diary:
Dressing room, pre-show
Last minute ‘tache bleach before the show
Pre-show beginners team
Act Two beginners
Perkins’ ‘tache trouble
On our way to the Olivier Awards
On the red carpet
