Crazy to close in March

Published 25 January 2012

The Regent’s Park Open Air theatre’s hit musical production Crazy For You, which transferred to the Novello theatre last October, is to end its West End run on 17 March.

The Gershwin musical had previously been booking until 28 July.

Originally staged at London’s leafiest theatre last summer, the tale of a banker’s son who just wants to dance and falls in love with the only woman in a town of cowboys won the hearts of critics and the public alike with its colourful costumes, classic songs and joyful story. When it first opened last summer, Official London Theatre described the Timothy Sheader-directed production as “fabulous escapism of the highest order”.

Written by Ken Ludwig, the musical draws together a host of classic Gershwin songs, including I Got Rhythm, Nice Work If You Can Get It and They Can’t Take That Away From Me.

While no show has been announced to replace Crazy For You at the Novello theatre, long-running Abba musical Mamma Mia! will move into the venue in the autumn.
