Cousins triple salchows into Grease

First Published 23 February 2010, Last Updated 24 February 2010

Olympic gold medal-winning ice-dancer and Dancing On Ice head judge Robin Cousins is bring his toe loops and double axels to the Piccadilly theatre stage to play Teen Angel in Grease from 29 March.

Cousins, who is more used to slippery conditions caused by ice than Grease, is no newcomer to the stage, having previously appeared in Cats, The Rocky Horror Show and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. He is, of course, best known for his medal winning exploits, collecting the gold medal at the World Free Skating Championships, the European Championships and the Winter Olympics.

When Cousins returns from this year’s Winter Olympics, where he is commentating on the skating, he will lead the panel of judges on ITV’s hit Sunday evening show Dancing On Ice, taking over in Grease at the end of March. He is not the first Dancing On Ice star to appear in Grease. Ray Quinn, the former X-Factor contestant who won the celebrity reality show in 2009, previously led the cast as Danny.

The current Grease cast features former Hear’Say singer Noel Sullivan in the role of the T-bird leader made famous by John Travolta in the hit film. He is joined by How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? finalist Siobhan Dillon as Sandy. Dillon previously appeared in Grease when the production opened in 2007, playing cheerleader Patty Simcox.

Hit musical Grease tells the story of a high school romance between leather-jacketed king of cool Danny and cardigan-wearing, straight-laced Sandy; two kids from different cliques, who shouldn’t mix but fall hopelessly in love.
