Cool Hand Luke announces closure

First Published 14 October 2011, Last Updated 1 February 2012

Cool Hand Luke, which opened at the Aldwych theatre last week, is to bring its West End run to a premature close on 19 November. It had been booking until 7 January.

Described by Heart Radio’s Matt Wilkinson as “Absorbing and brilliantly acted”, Cool Hand Luke stars Marc Warren as a World War II veteran turned convict whose refusal to bow to authority raises the spirits of his fellow prisoners.

The title role was made famous by Paul Newman, who starred in the movie adaptation of Donn Pearce’s acclaimed novel.

Warren, star of TV shows including Hustle and Mad Dogs, is joined in Cool Hand Luke by a cast including former Coronation Street star Lee Boardman, Rob Falconer, Nathan Osgood, Tom Silburn and David Sturzaker.

No production has been announced to follow Cool Hand Luke into the Aldwych theatre.
