Bush takes stars back to the Beginning

Published 22 March 2011

Acting luminaries including Christopher Eccleston, Tamsin Greig, Miranda Raison, Sharon Small, Michelle Terry and Ralf Little are turning tour guide as part of a new theatrical collaboration between the Bush theatre and Westminster Abbey on 24 March.

In The Beginning is a short work by playwright Nick Payne (If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet, Wanderlust) written to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible, which was finalised by a group of scholars in the Jerusalem Chamber of Westminster Abbey in 1611.

Part promenade performance, part tour, Payne’s work interweaves selected extracts from the King James Bible with a journey round the Abbey, allowing the audience access to areas that are rarely open to the public.

Directed by Bush theatre Artistic Director Josie Rouke and Christopher Haydon, In The Beginning’s unique performances will be led by an ensemble of actors including former Doctor Who Eccleston, recent Olivier winner Terry and Mistresses actress Small.

In The Beginning will be staged in multiple 40-minute tours from 18:30 to 21:30 on 24 March only.
