Andrew Buchan, the actor last seen revolutionising the British judicial system in TV’s Garrow’s Law, is to return to the Donmar Warehouse later this year in Michael Grandage’s farewell production of Richard II.

Buchan, who previously appeared in the Donmar’s production of Arthur Miller’s The Man Who Had All The Luck in 2008, will play Bolingbroke opposite another returning actor, Eddie Redmayne, in the title role.

Since 2006, Buchan, who won a Manchester Evening News Theatre Award for his performance in the tour of The Man Who Had All The Luck that followed the Donmar run, has become a regular television face. He has appeared in series including Jane Eyre, Cranford, The Fixer, The Nativity and Garrow’s Law.

Richard II, which runs at the Donmar Warehouse from 1 December 2011 to 4 February 2012, follows the actions of a king who seizes the land of his noblemen to fuel his own wars. As anger mounts, a battle for the soul of England begins.

Further casting has also been announced for the venue’s summer/autumn production of Eugene O’Neill’s Anna Christie, in which David Hayman and Jenny Galloway join the previously announced Jude Law and Ruth Wilson.

Scottish performer Hayman is best known for his role as Chief Supt. Michael Walker in the long-running crime drama Trial And Retribution, and has appeared in films including The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas, The Tailor Of Panama, Vertical Limit, Last Orders and Ordinary Decent Criminal.

Galloway is an actress best known for her musical theatre performances in productions including Les Misérables, Sweeney Todd, My Fair Lady and Mamma Mia! for which she won the 2000 Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical. Her last appearance with the Donmar Warehouse came opposite Judi Dench and Rosamund Pike in Madame De Sade as part of the theatre’s Donmar West End season in 2009.

Following Grandage’s final season as Artistic Director of the Donmar Warehouse, which also includes Osborne’s Inadmissible Evidence, Schiller’s Luise Miller and the current production of Pinter’s Moonlight, outgoing Bush theatre Artistic Director Josie Rourke will take over the running of the powerhouse producing venue.
