Broadway Carpool Karaoke

First Published 8 June 2016, Last Updated 8 June 2016

The car ride of every theatre lover’s life took place on Monday as Lin-Manuel Miranda, Audra McDonald, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Jane Krakowski joined James Corden in the New York traffic for the best Carpool Karaoke yet, ahead of the 70th Tony Awards on Sunday.

Corden showed off some impressive rapping skills with Miranda in Alexander Hamilton from Hamilton, which has been nominated for an incredible 16 Tony Awards. Miranda is also the mastermind behind In The Heights, which picked up four Olivier Awards back in April. The duo was then joined by McDonald, Ferguson and Krakowski, and, to quote Miranda, “Well now we got a sing-a-long”.

The group went on to perform Seasons Of Love from Rent, the opening chords of which triggered a collective happy sigh from the group in what Corden describes as ‘the most Broadway response to an opening of a song’. In a re-enactment of every true theatre fan’s average car journey, the segment was rounded off with musical theatre classics Can’t Take My Eyes Off You from Jersey Boys, and a rousing rendition of One Day More from Les Misérables.

Jersey Boys and Les Misérables are both currently playing in London, and Rent recently announced that a special 20th Anniversary Production will arrive at The St James Theatre in December.

The 70th Tony Awards will take place on Sunday 12 June. Follow the red carpet and behind-the-scenes action on The Tony Awards Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter and Instagram.
