Former Coronation Street star Lee Boardman and award-winning actress Lisa Eichhorn are to join Marc Warren in the stage adaptation of Cool Hand Luke at the Aldwych theatre this autumn.

Boardman, who played Jez Quigley in Coronation Street and Timon in TV series Rome, will play fellow convict Dragline in Cool Hand Luke, which tells the story of a World War II veteran turned convict and rebel whose spirit provides inspiration for his fellow inmates.

American Eichhorn, who received a Golden Globe nomination for her performance in John Schlesinger’s Yanks and a BAFTA nomination for The Europeans, takes to the London stage to play Luke’s mother.

The trio are joined in the cast by Rob Falconer, Joshua McCord, Nathan Osgood, Tom Silburn, David Sturzacker, Richard Brake, Kenneth Jay, Sandra Marvin, Tania Mathurin, Bret Jones, Michael Cuckson and Julie Rogers.

The tale of defiance and hope was written by former merchant marine, safecracker and convict Donn Pearce, and is best known for its movie incarnation, which starred Paul Newman in the title role.
