Birmingham Stage Company’s adaptation of Philip Pullman’s The Firework-Maker’s Daughter will play the Bloomsbury theatre this Christmas.
The magical adventure tells the story of Lila, a girl who dreams of becoming a firework-maker when she grows up. When her father tells her it is no job for a girl, her dreams are dashed. But like all good heroines, her determination wins out as she goes in search of the elusive royal sulphur.
On her way to the mysterious Mount Merapi Lila comes face to face with pirates and supernatural creatures, but her challenge becomes even harder when she must save her imprisoned father with a firework display to rival the best on earth!
The show, which has been adapted for the stage by Stephen Russell and is directed by Phil Clark, will play at the Bloomsbury theatre from 14 December to 21 January.

Pullman is an award-winning author of children and adult’s fantasy novels. His best-selling books include the hugely successful His Dark Materials trilogy which was adapted for the stage by the National Theatre.
