The Big Dance, London’s celebration of all things choreographic, will turn its attention to theatre with a spectacular show at the Royal Festival Hall on Thursday 10 July.
The free show, which begins at 12:00, will feature performances from some of London’s most impressively choreographed shows including Dirty Dancing, Chicago, Into The Hoods and Grease, and is hosted by the Dance Captain from hit lycra-clad Abba musical Mamma Mia!, Tim Stanley. It is one of the rare occasions that anyone has the opportunity to sample a number of the West End’s hit shows in one place, for free.
The Big Dance is a week-long celebration of dance, aimed to both showcase the art form and encourage audiences to stand up, start moving their bodies and get involved. There are a plethora of places where activities are being held, which includes an ambitious group dance for 2,008 members of the public in Trafalgar Square on Saturday.
Tomorrow’s West End showcase follows a week of celebration for the West End, which has been toasting its most successful year ever, with a staggering 13.5 million people attending a show in 2007. It is also part of the centenary celebrations of the Society of London Theatre (SOLT), which was formed in 1908, bringing together separate producers and theatre owners to create London’s glamorous theatre industry which is thriving today.
