The Arts Theatre dates of seminal drama Beautiful Thing have been cancelled by the show’s producers.
The production, which stars Charlie Brooks and Gerard McCarthy, had been due to play at London’s Arts Theatre from 3 June to 11 July, as part of a UK tour, but producers have made the decision to close the production after its dates in Northampton this week and Leicester next week.
Speaking about his decision, Executive Producer Tom O’Connell said: “It is with great regret that we have made the difficult decision to close Beautiful Thing early, but we are all immensely proud to have produced the show, led by a fantastic company and cast. After we staged an acclaimed West End season of the production in 2013, I hoped that this new tour would prove to be as successful but unfortunately the touring market can be an unpredictable place, as the closure of a number of high profile productions recently has shown.
“Jonathan Harvey’s Beautiful Thing remains a landmark and deeply relevant piece of theatre, and I thank every audience member who has come to see the show and who booked to see it elsewhere.”
Beautiful Thing tells the touching and witty story of two inner city teenage boys who fall in love.
Nikolai Foster’s acclaimed production was due to play at the Arts Theatre prior to the arrival of the Green Day-inspired American Idiot – The Musical. The Tony Award-winning musical, which is led in London by X Factor contestant Amelia Lily, is based on the US rock group’s album of the same name. It begins its London run on 17 July.
