Olivier Award-winning hit musical Beautiful – The Carole King Musical has celebrated its first West End birthday by extending its run to 18 February 2017.

The news comes in a month of milestones for the Broadway export with February marking not only a year of performances in London, but birthdays of the trio’s leading real-life characters Carole King, Barry Mann and the late Gerry Goffin, as well as the 45th anniversary of King’s legendary Tapestry album.

The new booking period will take the show into its second year playing at the Aldwych Theatre, bringing the musical’s fascinating tale of King’s life and huge influence on popular music to West End audiences.

Featuring a staggering line-up of hits, from Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow to Locomotion, Douglas McGrath’s love letter to the singer songwriter charts her incredible journey from school girl to superstar.

The hugely successful pop biopic marked its first birthday at a gala performance last night attended by VIP guests including Samantha Bond, Caroline Quentin, Alistair McGowan and Jo Wood. There was also a suitable sprinkling of rock royalty with Fleetwood Mac’s Christine McVie among the musicians in attendance.

Rounding-up February’s excitement for the show is its involvement in this year’s Magic Radio Audience Award as one of 16 shows eligible to win the publically voted for prize at the Olivier Awards 2016 with MasterCard.
