Amanda Drew joins London’s The Father

Evening Standard Theatre Award winner Kenneth Cranham will be joined in The Father by acclaimed actress Amanda Drew when the hit play returns to the London stage this spring.

The acclaimed production plays at the Duke of York’s Theatre from 24 February to 26 March.

Drew, a well-known face from TV’s Broadchurch and stage productions including Three Days In The Country and Enron, will play Anne, the daughter to Cranham’s Andre in the Florian Zeller’s five-star play.

Translated from Zeller’s French original by Christopher Hampton, The Father tells of an 80-year-old former tap dancer who lives with his daughter and her husband Antoine. Or was he an engineer whose daughter lives in London? Either way, he’s still wearing his pyjamas, he can’t find his watch and he is beginning to wonder if he’s losing control.

The tale of aging and family will also star Rebecca Charles, Brian Doherty, Daniel Flynn and Jade Williams when it returns to London for the third time following its premiere in the capital at the Tricycle Theatre and its subsequent West End transfer to the Wyndham’s Theatre last year.

The show, which was described by Official London Theatre’s Kate Stanbury as a “staggeringly brilliant play” when it opened at the Wyndham’s last autumn, will head off on a UK tour following its London engagement.

It will be followed at the Duke of York’s Theatre by Jamie Lloyd’s eagerly anticipated production of Christopher Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus, starring Game Of Thrones’ Kit Harington.
