Alexander Siddig will star alongside Jolyon Coy and Geraldine Alexander in the world premiere of David Eldridge’s new play Holy Warriors at Shakespeare’s Globe this summer.

Eldridge’s first ever play for the Globe, the tale of holy war, fraught diplomacy and revenge in the struggle for Jerusalem will play from 19 July to 24 August at the iconic venue.

Best known for his screen roles in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Syriana and Kingdom Of Heaven, Siddig will take on the role of Saladin in James Dacre’s production. The actor is joined in the cast by Posh star Coy, who can currently be seen in the venue’s production of Antony And Cleopatra, as Philip of France. Alexander, whose credits include Lucy Bailey’s 2006 production of Titus Andronicus and Strange Interlude at the National Theatre, plays Eleanor of Aquitaine.

Completing the cast are Ignatius Anthony, Peter Bankolé, Satya Bhabha, Jonathan Bonnici, Philip Correia, Kammy Darweish, Paul Hamilton, John Hopkins, Rosie Hilal, Sean Jackson, Sean Murray, Daniel Rabin, Sirine Saba, Merit Ariane Stephanos and Obioma Ugoala.

Billed as “a rich palimpsest of history”, Holy Warriors takes in two millennia of conflict, encompassing Richard The Lionheart’s third crusade, Hamas suicide bombings, the Roman army and George W Bush.

The production plays as part of a season that still has productions including Richard Bean’s Pitcairn, The Last Days Of Troy starring Lily Cole and Dominic Dromgoole’s production of Julius Caesar for audiences to look forward to at the Bankside venue this summer.
