The Young Vic stages Tennessee Williams’s first great Broadway success, The Glass Menagerie, with a new score by an Oscar and Golden Globe-winning composer.

The Glass Menagerie follows Tom, a young would-be poet who struggles to support both his overbearing and sentimental mother and his delicate, obsessive sister. The subject of this deeply touching, autobiographical play is the most fragile of all human emotions; hope.

Williams is one of the greatest playwrights of the 20th century. His plays have had an immeasurable impact on American theatre. In addition to The Glass Menagerie, his works include A Streetcar Named Desire, Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, Night Of The Iguana, Summer And Smoke and Sweet Bird Of Youth.

Dario Marianelli, who provides the score for The Glass Menagerie, won both an Oscar and a Golden Globe for his score to the film Atonement. He was also Oscar-nominated for his score to Pride And Prejudice. His other movie scores include The Brothers Grimm, The Soloist and V For Vendetta.

The Glass Menagerie is directed by the Young Vic’s Deputy Artistic Director Joe Hill-Gibbins, whose work at the venue include The Beauty Queen Of Leenane, The Girlfriend Experience and A Respectable Wedding.
