American actor Ned Beatty has earned himself his first ever Olivier nomination for his role as Big Daddy in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, which has just finished its run at the Lyric.

And, whilst The Play What I Wrote duo Sean Foley and Hamish McColl have to share their nomination, fellow actor Toby Jones gets one all to himself as he goes head to head with Beatty, Desmond Barrit, Adam Godley, and Malcolm Sinclair in the Best Actor In A Supporting Role category. Meanwhile, Lyndsey Marshal has also won her first Olivier nomination for her role in Boston Marriage. She will be up against actress Emma Fielding in the Best Actress In A Supporting Role category, who joins fellow thesps Lindsay Duncan and Alan Rickman as they wave the flag for the production of Private Lives, giving the show six nominations in total.

Jack Davenport, who has just been confirmed in the cast of the forthcoming Lady Windermere’s Fan, joins the list of nominees (which includes Royle Family star Ralf Little) for one of the three brand new awards this year, Most Promising Performer. This new category, along with Most Promising Playwright, has been added to recognise the work of the Society of London Theatre’s affiliate members, representing the Almeida Theatre, Hampstead Theatre, Lyric Theatre Hammersmith, Royal Court Jerwood Theatre Upstairs, Tricycle Theatre and the Young Vic Theatre.
