The hits just keep rolling out of the Young Vic under Kwame Kwei-Armah’s Artistic Directorship. And following the well-received The Convert, the venue has today revealed casting for dark comedy Jesus Hopped The ‘A’ Train, and surreal play Wild East.
Jesus Hopped The ‘A’ Train, directed by Kate Hewitt, will star Oberon K. A. Adjepong (as Lucius Jenkins), Matthew Douglas (D’Amico), Dervla Kirwan (Mary Jane Hanrahan), Ukweli Roach (Angel Cruz) and Joplin Sibtain (Valdez).
Pulitzer Prize winner Stephen Adly Guirgis’ dark comedy, which calls into question the American justice system, first premiered in London at the Donmar Warehouse in 2002, receiving an Olivier Award nomination for Best New Play. This exciting new revival begins previews at the Young Vic on 14 February in the Main House, running until 30 March.
Opening the week before in the Young Vic’s The Clare space, Genesis Future Directors Award winner Lekan Lawal directs Wild East. The show will star Lucy Briers (as Dr Pitt), Kemi-Bo Jacobs (as Dr Gray) and Zach Wyatt (as Frank).
Revived at the Young Vic following its Royal Court premiere in February 2005, Wild East transforms a corporate job interview into a subversive and sharp comedy about the permeation of human chaos. Performances begin 6 February, running until 16 February.
A limited number of tickets have also gone on sale for Luke Barnes’ The Jumper Factory, a unique collaboration with inmates at HMP Wandsworth, which explores the stories of people behind bars. The production will be performed in The Maria from 26 February until 9 March.
