War Horse extends with new cast

Published 2 February 2015

The hugely popular West End production of War Horse has confirmed it will continue to entertain theatregoers into 2016, extending its booking period at the New London Theatre to next February.

The National Theatre’s inventive staging of Michael Morpurgo’s moving First World War tale is today also celebrating its extended run with the introduction of a brand new cast who will take to the New London Theatre stage from 16 March.

Recent LIPA graduate James Backway will follow in the footsteps of actors including Game Of Thrones’ Kit Harrington and Olivier Award winner Luke Treadaway to lead the cast as Albert, the show’s brave protagonist whose love for his horse takes him on an unforgettable journey.

Set during World War One, Albert’s horse Joey is sold to the cavalry and shipped to France where he is soon caught up in enemy fire. Back home in Devon, Albert is unable to forget him and embarks on a treacherous mission to bring him home.

Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris’ uniquely staged production brings alive all the emotion and adventure of Morpurgo’s extraordinary story, and has now been seen by more than six million people worldwide.

The huge company (pictured above with writer Morpurgo) boasts 26 actors alongside the 12 all-important puppeteers who will be responsible for bringing to life the show’s infamous animal characters.

Actors joining Backway include Ken Bradshaw, Alasdair Craig, Harry De Moraville, Nick Figgis, Patrick Fleming, Keiran Flynn, Alan Francis, Colm Gormley, Dominic Hodson, Ian Houghton, Mark Jackson, Simon Jenkins, Kate Marlais, Tony McGeever, Jayne Mckenna, Chris Milford, Adam Henderson Scott, Alisdair Simpson and Simon Wolfe.

Anyone keen to catch the current cast can take advantage of our ticket promotion Get Into London Theatre, which offers discounted tickets for performances until 13 February.
