Waitress to plate up pie jar selection at the Adelphi

By Robin Johnson Published 23 January 2019

Who better to celebrate with today (23 January) – that’s National Pie Day, in case you were wondering – than an upcoming West End musical baked straight from the heart? Waitress, which begins previews at the Adelphi Theatre on 8 February, has announced plans to offer a delicious selection of its famous pie jars at performances.

Audience members will be able to savour a choice of flavours including apple crumble, chocolate salted caramel, or banoffee, each night at the theatre. These Waitress pie jars were originally created by the New York-based Cute As Cake, and will be baked over here by the ever-popular Theatre Café.

Rehearsals are now underway for the hit musical’s UK premiere. And with a cast including Katharine McPhee (Smash), Jack McBrayer (30 Rock), Marisha Wallace (Dreamgirls), and Laura Baldwin (Eugenius!), the rapidly approaching show promises to be as exciting as its newly-announced pie jar menu (well, almost!).

It’s yet another new West End initiative for Waitress, who recently announced “Cast Album Karaoke nights” for London. These will be special post-show events at which audience members can sing one minute of any song from Sara Bareilles’ soundtrack to the show. What’s more, they’ll be live on stage and accompanied by the show’s musical director Katharine Woolley.

Waitress is based on the 2007 motion picture, and follows Jenna, a small-town waitress – and expert pie-maker – who dreams of escaping her rocky marriage. And a baking contest in a nearby county, as well as the arrival of someone new in her life, may just afford her the fresh start she’s been craving…
