Indira Varma is to join Ralph Fiennes in the National Theatre production of Man And Superman. The George Bernard Shaw play opens in the Lyttelton Theatre next February.

The Game Of Thrones actress, who plays Ellaria Sand in the hit HBO drama, will be directed by Simon Godwin when she returns to the South Bank venue for the first time since her performance in Katie Mitchell’s 2002 production of Ivanov.

Bernard Shaw’s tragicomedy is the tale of two men caring for an orphaned girl. As the relationship between guardian and girl becomes romantic, she tries to wheedle her way into his heart.

Varma is one of Britain’s most versatile actresses, working across film, television and stage. In addition to the acclaimed fantasy series, her TV credits include Silk, Luther and Moses Jones, while her most recent stage outings include Shakespeare’s Globe’s production of Titus Andronicus and the Trafalgar Transformed staging of Harold Pinter’s The Hothouse.
