UK Theatre Awards 2017 Nominations revealed

UK Theatre has announced the nominations for the UK Theatre Awards 2017, with London-bound musicals Everybody’s Talking About Jamie and Caroline, Or Change amongst the heralded shows.

The critically acclaimed productions will both contest the Best Musical Production category alongside the Royal Exchange Theatre’s production of Sweet Charity, while their leading performers, John McCrea and Sharon D Clarke respectively, are both up for Best Performance In A Musical alongside Kaisa Hammarlund (for Sweet Charity) and Louis Maskell (for the Bristol Old Vic’s The Grinning Man).

London theatregoers will have previously enjoyed the Royal Court’s Wish List, up for Best New Play; The Who’s Tommy, the Kerry Michael-directed musical which played a short run at Theatre Royal Stratford East this year, nominated for Best Touring Production; and Around The World In 80 Days (a New Vic Theatre production in partnership with Kenny Wax Family Entertainment and Simon Friend, in association with Royal Exchange Theatre) and Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox (a Nuffield Southampton Theatres and Curve co-production, in association with Lyric Hammersmith), both up for Best Show for Children and Young People.

59 Productions, Jenny Melville and Lysander Ashton’s design for City Of Glass, a 59 Productions, Lyric Hammersmith, HOME and Karl Sydow production, was nominated for Best Design, while London dance venue Sadler’s Wells has been nominated for Achievement in Marketing/Audience Development.

The Awards will be presented on Sunday 15 October at a ceremony at London’s Guildhall, with the Olivier Award-winning actress Clarke hosting this year’s event.

The UK Theatre Awards celebrate creative excellence and the outstanding work seen on stages throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
