The hit West End production of The Phantom Of The Opera will welcome two new masked men, when John Owen-Jones and Ben Forster join the cast in September and February respectively.
Owen-Jones, a Phantom record breaker having played the role more times than any other actor in the West End show’s history, takes on the titular character from 7 September. He returns to the capital’s stage following his recent role in the English National Opera’s critically acclaimed Sweeney Todd.
Superstar winner Forster, who is soon to bring Christmas spirit to the London stage in festive musical Elf, will replace Owen-Jones from 1 February.
Both forthcoming Phantoms will be joined in the spectral show by a cast including Celinde Schoenmaker, who swaps her recent role in another of Cameron Mackintosh’s West End hits, Les Misérables, to play Christine. She is joined by previous cast member Nadim Naaman, who returns to play Raoul, Michael Matus (Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown The Musical, West End) and Christopher Dickins (War Horse, West End).
Lara Martins, Jacinta Mulcahy, John Ellis, Alicia Beck and Emmi Christensson will continue in their roles, with Lisa-Anne Wood replacing Christensson as the alternate Christine Daaé in June 2016.
Based on the gothic novel by Gaston Leroux, The Phantom Of The Opera follows the eponymous veiled figure, whose ethereal presence casts a shadow over the Paris Opera House, as he falls in love with chorus singer Christine.
One of London’s best-loved musicals, the Olivier Award-winning show features a score by the legendary Andrew Lloyd Webber includes memorable hits All I Ask Of You, Think Of Me and The Point Of No Return.
While the casting of Wood may suggest that the much-loved musical will be continuing its hugely successful run well into 2016, The Phantom Of The Opera is currently booking at Her Majesty’s Theatre until March 2016.
