Sunny Afternoon, the Olivier Award-winning musical tale of hit British band The Kinks, has extended its run at the Harold Pinter Theatre. The show is now booking to 16 April 2016.
The acclaimed musical, which has really got audiences going and was originally a hit at Hampstead Theatre before transferring to the West End, had been booking to October.
Written by Joe Penhall and featuring music, lyrics and an original story by The Kinks’ singer/songwriter Ray Davies, Sunny Afternoon follows the rise of the chart-topping British band from hopeful wannabes to their attempts at cracking America. The classic tune-fest features a host of the group’s biggest hits, including You Really Got Me, Lola, Waterloo Sunset and the title track.
The very British musical, which is directed by Hampstead Theatre’s Artistic Director Edward Hall, collected four Olivier Awards at this year’s ceremony in April, including Best Actor in a Musical and Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical for leading men John Dagleish and George Maguire.
The pair, who play brothers Ray and Dave Davies, will stay with the show until 3 October. Casting from 5 October onwards is yet to be announced.
