The upcoming production of The Man In The White Suit is getting a royally fantastic addition to its cast, as Sue Johnston will be joining the show.

Winner of a British Comedy Award, and star of popular TV shows including hit-comedy The Royle Family, Sue will play the role of Mrs Watson from 5 September.

Sue will appear in the show for a strictly limited time, starting off in the initial run at Theatre Royal Bath, and then performing for the first nine weeks in the West End.

She joins previously announced cast members, Stephen Mangan and Kara Tointon who will play the lead roles of Sidney and Daphne.

Full casting is still to be announced, but the show will have 14 members, including actor musicians. Adding to the casting excitement, is the news that the show will have a specially written score.

Adapted and directed by Sean Foley, the show will be somewhat of a reunion for him and Stephen Mangan, who previously worked on the Oliver Award winning comedy Jeeves and Wooster together.

It’ll also Sean’s second time working with acclaimed designer Michael Taylor, as they created the five times Olivier Award nominated show The Ladykillers.

Based on the play The Flower Within the Bud by Roger MacDougall, The Man In The White Suit is a much-anticipated stage adaptation of the classic Ealing Studios comedy.

The show tells the story of Sidney Stratton, who invents a fabric that never gets dirty or wears out. Obviously, manufacturers and trade unions are terrified of his invention, concerned for what it means for the industry and specifically, their jobs. Only Daphne, the mill owner’s daughter, shows Sidney any sympathy as his world gradually falls apart. Can Daphne help Sidney find new love, and crucially, a new idea?

The Man In The White Suit opens at the Wyndham’s Theatre on 26 September and will run until 11 January 2020. Tickets are on sale now.
