Percussive smash-hit Stomp marked 15 years in London’s West End at the Ambassadors Theatre last night (Monday 25 September 2017) with on-stage celebrations and, of course, birthday cake.
At the end of the performance, which once again thrilled its Theatreland audience with infectious rhythm and energy, cast member Andrew Patrick brought a birthday cake onto the stage.
The Stomp audience then sang Happy Birthday to the cast and crew of one of Britain’s greatest exports, and one of the longest running shows in London.
Stomp is currently booking until 15 April 2018 at London’s Ambassadors Theatre, where it has broken all previous box office records.
Opening in Sadler’s Wells Theatre in January 1994, the Olivier Award-winning production first played in the West End on 25 September 2002 at the Vaudeville Theatre, where it remained before transferring to its current home on 27 September 2017.
The occasion adds to the numerous accolades for the remarkable show, which first came to life at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, combining elements of theatre, dance, comedy and percussion to turn the clutter of urban life into thumping, all-encompassing beats. The resulting production has now toured the globe for a sensational 26 years.
