Springtime at Polka

Polka theatre is known for its popular programme of fun, educational workshops for children, and this spring school holiday is no exception. The Wimbledon children’s theatre is holding a series of workshops for youngsters aged 3-12, to tie in with its current productions.

The programme starts on 8 April with Polka Puppets (10:00-15:30, £30), a workshop for 6-8 year olds in which Polka’s professional puppeteers teach children how to create their own puppets and devise a short story to share with family and friends.

Secret Stories (9-11 April, 10:00-16:00, £85) is a three-day workshop for 8-12 year olds which ties in with Polka’s production of Jacqueline Wilson’s Secrets, playing until 19 April in the main theatre. As well as getting the chance to see the popular author’s story about the friendship between two very different girls, Secret Stories allows participants to explore some of the skills of telling a story through drama. The cost of the workshop includes a ticket to Secrets.

On 15 and 16 April, Polka is holding a series of half-day drama, storytelling and music workshops entitled Springtime Stories. Sessions (costing £28 each) from 13:30-15:00 are suitable for children aged 4-5, while 10:30-12:00 workshops are aimed at 3-4 year olds.

Creative children aged 5-7 can put their artistic skills to good use in Crafty Creatures (15-16 April, 10:30-12:30, £35), a two day workshop in which participants can create a colourful collage of creatures.
