Daniel Weyman and Simon Harrison will star in the European premiere of Rex Pickett’s much loved comedy Sideways at the St James Theatre next month.

Adapted from Pickett’s acclaimed novel, which inspired the Academy Award and Golden Globe-winning film, Weyman and Harrison will star as best friends Miles and Jack when the play runs at the Victoria venue from 26 May to 9 July.

Audiences will be invited to join the pair on a hilarious journey into the heart of wine country when a neurotic author, who is writing his way into a midlife-crisis, and actor, who is marrying his way out of his, head out to Santa Barbara for a week of wine-tastings.

There they find out that there’s more to be savoured in California than a few new bottles. For when Miles and Jack meet the equally strong and complex Maya and Terra, the four of them learn just how intoxicating a good glass of wine and good company can be, for better and for worse.

Weyman, whose West End stage credits include The Life And Adventures Of Nicholas Nickleby and Calico, and Shakespeare’s Globe regular Harrison (The Comedy Of Errors, The Last Days Of Troy and Henry VI Parts I, II & III) will be joined in the leading cast by fellow Globe regular Ellie Piercy (As You Like It, Blue Stockings, All’s Well That Ends Well) and Beth Cordingly (Children’s Children, Almeida Theatre and A Round Heeled Woman in the West End) as Maya and Terra respectively.

David Grindley’s production will also feature performances from Anne Kavanagh, Kirsten Hazel Smith and Daniel Barry.

The warm-hearted comedy will follow the forthcoming revival of family drama My Mother Said I Never Should. Paul Robinson’s production of Charlotte Keatley’s seminal play runs from 13 April and stars Olivier Award winners Maureen Lipman and Katie Brayben.
