To coincide with the commemoration of the end of WW1, there will be a special gala performance of Ian Hislop and Nick Newman’s play, The Wipers Times, with a post-show Q&A with the writers on Remembrance Sunday.

The special performance will take place at 6pm on Sunday 11 November at the Arts Theatre. The performance will be in support of The Royal British Legion’s Thank You campaign. The campaign serves to say thank you to all those who served, sacrificed, and changed our world during the Great War. The mass initiative has encouraged the public to celebrate the centenary of the end of the war through a series of events.

The show is based on the writing duo’s BBC film of the same name. It tells the true story of two British officers who stumble upon a printing press in the Belgian town of Ypres (mispronounced as ‘Wipers’ by British soldiers). With their new discovery, the pair decide to create a newspaper for the troops. But instead of sombre tales from the trenches, they create a sharp-witted, canny and very funny newspaper designed to lift the troupe’s spirits.

The show is filled with comic sketches and spoofs from the creative minds at the front line.

For tickets to this special one-off performance, visit the Arts Theatre website.
