The announcement of The Prince Of Egypt coming to the West End has caused quite a lot of excitement in Theatreland, and now we know the full creative team who are bringing the story to life on stage.

You can definitely expect some fantastic songs in the show, as music and lyrics have been done by Stephen Schwartz, who’s responsible for the absolute bangers in Wicked. The book of the show has been written by Philip LaZebnik, an award-winning screenwriter and playwright whose previous credits include Disney hits, Mulan and Pocahontas.

Joining the previously announced director Scott Schwartz (The Hunchback of Notre Dame) is top-notch choreographer Sean Cheesman (So You Think You Can Dance). He’s got a string of dancing-based accolades to his name, including winning MTV Music Video ‘Best Choreography/Dance’ awards for Michael & Janet Jackson’s ‘Scream’ and Prince’s ‘Cream’. He also appeared in and choreographed The Bodyguard starring Whitney Houston.

Prepare yourself for some dazzling costumes, as Tony Award-winning costume designer Ann Hould-Ward (Disney’s Beauty and the Beast) is at the helm. Her colleagues in the design team will include two-time LA Ovation Award-nominated lighting designer Mike Billings (who has worked on over 50 productions during his career), acclaimed Chicago-based set designer Kevin Depinet and the highly praised illusion designer Chris Fisher (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child).

There are also a few Olivier Award winners on board, including recent recipient Gareth Owen (Come From Away), who’s now racked up three Olivier award wins, as well as two Tony nominations for his spectacular sound design.

Award-winning projection designer Jon Driscoll (Ink, Brief Encounter) is also joining the creative team.

Orchestrations are by Olivier Award-winner and Tony Award and Grammy nominee August Eriksmoen (Come From Away) with musical supervision and arrangements by Dominick Amendum (Wicked). The Musical Director is Dave Rose (Wicked) and casting is by Jim Arnold CDG (Wicked).

We’ve still got to wait a little while until casting is announced, but with this calibre of a creative team running things, it’s sure to be a hit!

Based on the popular animated film, The Prince of Egypt tells the story of two brothers from Ancient Egypt. Raised in privilege, they suddenly find themselves at war with each other when their secret past is unearthed. One must rule as Pharaoh, the other must rise up and free his true people; both face a destiny that will change history forever.

This new musical will feature 10 brand-new songs written especially for the stage, as well as five songs from the classic film, including Deliver Us, All I Ever Wanted, Through Heaven’s Eyes and the Academy Award-winning When You Believe.

The Prince of Egypt will run for 32 weeks only at the Dominion Theatre from 5 February 2020.
