Today, it has been announced that the Olivier Award winner Patricia Hodge will be joining Claire Skinner and Toby Stephens in the West End revival of A Day In The Death Of Joe Egg at Trafalgar Studios.
Many will know Patricia for her beloved performance in Miranda, as well as her incredible career on the stage. She started out under the watchful eye of Bob Fosse in a production of Pippin at the National Theatre. She has received three Olivier Award nominations in the past and took him the win in 2000 for her performance in Money at the National Theatre.
Peter Nichols’ A Day In The Death Of Joe Egg shows the life and issues of a couple raising a child with disabilities. Bri (played by Toby) and Sheila (played by Claire) try to escape the struggles of looking after their 10-year-old daughter by nicknaming her Joe Egg and losing themselves in fantasy games and black humour. But the limits of love and family – and our assumptions of their strength – will be severely tested.
About joining the cast, Patricia said: “This play was groundbreaking in the 1960s. We live in different times but its relevance and impact is ever more powerful. I am delighted to be joining Toby and Claire to tell the story on the West End stage.”
A Day In The Death Of Joe Egg is directed by Killer Joe’s Simon Evans, will run at Trafalgar Studios from Saturday 21 September until Saturday 30 November.
