We hope Paterson Joseph likes “humbug”s, because the Peep Show, Green Wing and RSC star is set to play Ebenezer Scrooge in The Old Vic‘s much-loved A Christmas Carol.

Jack Thorne’s adaptation of the famous festive Dickens story is returning to the Waterloo venue for a third run this year, having brought huge yuletide cheer to The Old Vic the past couple of years with its mix of mince pies, music and merriment.

And Paterson, who played Alan Johnson in Peep Show and has enjoyed an extensive stage career around the country, will be taking the lead role of the infamously bitter misanthrope, following in the footsteps of Rhys Ifans and Stephen Tompkinson.

Directed by Matthew Warchus, A Christmas Carol is a big-hearted, smash-hit production which immerses the audiences in Dickens’ uplifting tale. The joyous production begins performances on 23 November, and will run until 18 January 2020.
