Monica Dolan will return to the Royal Court Theatre to take the lead role in Nicola Wilson’s venue debut Plaques And Tangles this October.
The Wolf Hall actress will play Megan, a woman with early onset Alzheimer’s, when the production premieres in the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs from 14 October to 21 November.
Dolan, who appeared at the Royal Court in Enda Walsh’s adaptation of The Twits earlier this year, has appeared extensively at the Sloane Square venue, with other credits including Birth Of A Nation, and Sliding With Suzanne.
Elsewhere she has made stage appearances in The Same Deep Water As Me at the Donmar Warehouse and the Bush Theatre’s Chalet Lines, while on screen she portrayed Alice More in the Damian Lewis and Mark Rylance-led screen adaptation of Wolf Hall, starred in the BBC’s The Casual Vacancy and was awarded a BAFTA for her role in 2011’s Appropriate Adult.
Dolan will be joined in the production by a cast including From Here To Eternity leading man Robert Lonsdale, who makes his Royal Court debut, and Bríd Brennan (All My Sons, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre), who returns to the venue following her performance in 2008’s Bliss.
Directed by Lucy Morrison, Plaques And Tangles follows Megan as she lurches through time on a wild memory trip as her family strives to deal with the consequences.
Dolan is also joined in the drama by three other Royal Court returnees, Vanessa Babiye (truth & reconciliation), Ted Reilly (Vera, Vera, Vera) and Ferdy Roberts, whose numerous credits at the theatre include If You Don’t Let Us Dream, We Won’t Let You Sleep and Playing The Victim.
Completing the cast are Some Girls actress Alice Felgate and LAMDA graduate Rosalind Eleazar, who makes her theatrical debut in the production.
Wilson’s Plaques And Tangles will open at the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs following another playwright’s Royal Court debut. Cordelia Lynn’s Lela & Co, which tells the story of a young girl trapped in an increasingly tiny world, plays until 3 October.
