Menier revives Hugh Whitemore’s Pack Of Lies

Published 30 July 2018

The Menier Chocolate Factory will stage a major revival of Pack Of Lies, Hugh Whitemore’s stage adaptation of his espionage drama Act Of Betrayal.

Pack Of Lies tells the true story of Bill and Ruth Search and their teenage daughter Gay Search (who later became a television presenter and journalist), who unwittingly found themselves at the centre of the investigations into the Portland Soviet spy ring.

The play is set in the Jackson household and follows their friendship with their Canadian neighbours, the Krogers. But when a detective from Scotland Yard asks to use their house as an observation station, the Jacksons are forced into an agonising decision: betray their friends… or their country?

This new production is the first London revival of Pack Of Lies since it premiered at the Lyric Theatre in 1983 with real life husband and wife Judi Dench and Michael Williams. Dench received an Olivier Award for her performance.

Previews begin 20 September. Hannah Chissick directs.

Spamilton, The Hamilton Parody musical, is currently playing at the venue.

Tickets are available through the Menier Chocolate Factory website.
