The National Theatre and Theatr Clywd’s co-production of Home, I’m Darling, a new play by Laura Wade, will transfer to the Duke of York’s Theatre in early 2019.
The fizzing 1950s marital comedy, which was nominated for Best New Play at this year’s UK Theatre Awards, will have a West End run, with Katherine Parkinson (The IT Crowd, Humans) reprising her acclaimed role as Judy.
Home, I’m Darling will play in the West End from 26 January until 13 April 2019, before heading out on tour to Theatre Royal Bath and The Lowry, Salford, later in the year. The transfers play in co-production with Fiery Angel.
How happily married are the happily married? Home, I’m Darling is about one woman’s mission to become the perfect 1950s housewife. But being a domestic goddess is not as easy as it seems – and behind the gingham curtains, not every marriage sparkles as brightly as it may seem.
The announcement comes at the culmination of a remarkable year for the witty play; directed by Theatre Clywd’s Artistic Director, Tamara Harvey, Home, I’m Darling enjoyed critically acclaimed runs both in North Wales and at the National Theatre earlier this year.
Of the transfer, Harvey said: “I began this journey with two of the most glorious partners anyone could hope for in Laura Wade and Katherine Parkinson. Several years and children later, we realised Home, I’m Darling in what has been a very happy and collaborative co-production between Theatr Clwyd and the team at the National Theatre.
“It’s an utter privilege to have the opportunity to revisit the production in the West End and on tour.”
