The Tricycle Theatre’s Artistic Director Indhu Rubasingham has been announced as the ambassador for the 10th behind-the-scenes careers fair TheatreCraft this November.

The acclaimed director takes the reins from previous ambassadors including Michael Grandage, Jamie Lloyd and Vicky Featherstone to inspire individuals aged between 16 and 25-years-old interested in a non-performance career in theatre.

Rubasingham, whose recent productions for the London stage include the National Theatre’s The Motherf**ker With The Hat, will open the free event when it’s held at the Royal Opera House on 20 November.

Talking about the importance of TheatreCraft, the director said: “This is a great opportunity for young people to realise that if you have a passion for theatre and don’t want to act, there are many, many creative ways to be part of this exciting industry. That was my journey, falling in love with theatre, but not knowing where I could fit in. I wish TheatreCraft had been around when I was a young person.”

TheatreCraft celebrates its 10th event this autumn and offers an invaluable opportunity for young people interested in behind-the-scenes aspects of theatre, from directing, stage management and producing to marketing, lighting and design.

Attendees of the event will be able to take part in a series of workshops led by theatre professionals, explore the vibrant marketplace of exhibiting theatres and organisations, and visit the Ask The Experts zone for one-to-one advice and networking opportunities.

In 2014 more than 1,200 young people attended the event, which is organised by the Society of London Theatre, the organisation behind this website, alongside the Theatre Royal Haymarket Masterclass Trust, Royal Opera House, Mousetrap Theatre Projects, and Creative and Cultural Skills.

On the day and in the run-up to the event we’ll be bringing you all the latest TheatreCraft news as TheatreCraft’s official media partner. Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter so you don’t miss out.
