In rehearsal: Versailles

Published 17 February 2014

The Donmar Warehouse’s Versailles is that rarest of treats, a premiere production by a playwright who has been thrilling audiences for near five decades, Peter Gill.

As always, Gill is directing his latest work; a drama written specifically for 2014, marking 100 years since the First World War began.

Set in a drawing room in Kent, Versailles tells the story of one of the British delegates to draw up the infamous treaty, Leonard Rawlinson. As his family quickly return to pre-War life, Leonard finds himself responsible for the choices that will shape the lives of million for centuries to come.

Manuel Harlan was allowed behind the scenes to capture the cast, which includes screen regulars Francesca Annis and Tom Hughes, in rehearsals for the much-anticipated premiere.
