Okay, so an invasion of the Earth might be more shocking than the opportunity to take a cheeky look at a show being put together, but these images are far more exciting than such an onslaught. And less terrifying, coming, as they do, without any threat to mortality or the future of the human race.
What can we learn from them? That David Essex puts his neatly trimmed beard to good use when thinking, as all beard wearers should. That former Sugababe Heidi Range may well be one of the most naturally photogenic performers on the planet. That if aliens ever do invade shovels should not be the weapon of choice for defending our fine planet.
Unravelling exactly what those diggers are doing is now easier than before, as Jeff Wayne’s The War Of The Worlds has begun its run at the Dominion Theatre.
The stage adaptation of the cult hit music album stars Essex and Range alongside Jimmy Nail, Daniel Bedingfield, Michael Praed, Madalena Alberto and a version of Liam Neeson created by holography to tell HG Wells’ story of a less than friendly trip to Earth by highly intelligent, weapon-toting Martians.
The show is currently booking at the Dominion Theatre to 30 April.
