In rehearsal: Girl From The North Country

A close-knit 1934 community, living on a knife-edge, huddles together in the local guesthouse – meanwhile, the starry cast playing them in 2017 seem to be enjoying themselves in rehearsals.

Set in Duluth, Minnesota, a 20-piece company of actors and musicians bring this tale to life, penned by award-winning playwright Conor McPherson and beautifully weaving the iconic songbook of Bob Dylan into this new show full of hope, heartbreak and soul.

The owner, Nick (Ciaran Hinds), owes more money than he can ever repay, his wife Elizabeth (Shirley Henderson) is losing her mind and their daughter Marianne (Sheila Atim) is carrying a child no-one will account for. And, when a preacher selling bibles and a boxer looking for a comeback show up in the middle of the night, things start to spiral beyond the point of no return… But Nick thinks he’s seen a way out.

You can also listen to the company of Girl From The North Country perform extracts from Bob Dylan’s iconic songbook.

The show begins previews on 10 July, and opens at The Old Vic on 26 July, closing its run on 7 October.
