Henshall extends Chicago stay

Laurence Olivier Award-winning actress Ruthie Henshall has extended her run as Chicago’s murderous showgirl Roxie Hart by two months. She will now continue in the long-running show until 18 April.

Henshall, who originated the role of Roxie Hart when Chicago opened in 1997 and was subsequently nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award, returned to the hit production for the festive season.

Among Henshall’s extensive list of musical credits are Cats, Miss Saigon, Les Misérables, Oliver!, Crazy For You, She Loves Me – for which she won her Laurence Olivier Award – and Children Of Eden, in which she starred opposite current Chicago co-star and West End regular Anna-Jane Casey.

Written by Kander and Ebb, Chicago’s tale of killer performers, sleazy lawyers, media manipulation and doing anything for a taste of fame opened at London’s Adelphi theatre in 1997, winning the 1998 Laurence Olivier Award for Outstanding Musical Production. In 2006, it transferred to its current home at the Cambridge theatre.
