Guys And Dolls, which is currently playing at the Piccadilly theatre, has been awarded the 2006 Laurence Olivier Award for Outstanding Musical Production, beating the Open Air Theatre’s HMS Pinafore to the statuette.

The co-production between the Ambassador Theatre Group, Clear Channel Entertainment and the Donmar Warehouse opened in May 2005 following months of excitement and anticipation. The Michael Grandage-directed production featured an original cast of Ewan McGregor, Douglas Hodge, Jane Krakowski and Jenna Russell – all of whom received Laurence Olivier Award nominations.

The Laurence Olivier Award-winning show is the West End’s first new production of Loesser and Burrow’s classic musical in 23 years and received a total of eight nominations. The plot follows lovable gangster-types Nathan Detroit and Sky Masterson as one tries to organise a crap game and the other attempts to win $1,000 by seducing Salvation Army Captain Sarah Brown.
