Griff Rhys Jones leads LMTO’s A Christmas Carol

By Robin Johnson Published 6 November 2018

London Musical Theatre Orchestra’s festive favourite, A Christmas Carol, will return to the Lyceum Theatre this December – and Griff Rhys Jones will star as the miserly Scrooge.

Now a firm fixture in Theatreland’s winter calendar, LMTO’S enchanting A Christmas Carol will also star Lucie Jones (Les Misérables, West End; Eurovision 2017) as Emily/The Ghost of Christmas Future; Miriam-Teak Lee (Hamilton) as The Ghost of Christmas Past; Cedric Neal (Motown The Musical) as The Ghost of Christmas Present; Rosemary Ashe (The Phantom Of The Opera) as Mrs Fezziwig; and Nicolas Colicos (The Producers) as Mr Fezziwig.

Further casting will be announced at a later date.

The popular concert production of A Christmas Carol, penned by Alan Menken, Lynn Ahrens and Mike Ockrent, will play for three performances at the Lyceum: 7.30pm on Mondays 10 and 17 December, and an additional matinee at 4pm on Monday 17 December.

Comedian, actor and writer Rhys Jones said of his role: “I’m delighted to be getting to play my hero, Scrooge. I have based a lot of my current life choices on him.

“Dickens made a huge impact on our whole idea of Christmas with his little book, ‘A Christmas Carol’. It has justly been a favourite ever since and this is a brilliant and moving musical version.”

LMTO’s concert version of A Christmas Carol follows their triumphant performance of Lerner & Loewe’s Camelot at the London Palladium last month.

Tickets for A Christmas Carol are available through ATG tickets.
