Alice Fearn going green for Wicked

Going green this Halloween with Elphaba

Going green is totally Wicked. Just ask Alice Fearn who transforms into Elphaba eight times a week. But how exactly does she do it? And how long does it take to degreenify?

We went backstage at Wicked to see how Alice goes from blonde-haired actress to green-skinned Wicked Witch.

As Alice says, it usually takes a good 20-40 minutes to remove the green, though she’ll admit herself, she won’t ever be fully ungreened. And this Halloween, she decided to stay the shade of Emerald for a little bit longer. Not one to usually dress up for the spooky holiday, Alice made sure her options were easy to achieve… for her at least. Keeping the viridescent hue, she opted to dress up like non-other than The Mask.

We just hope she remembered to degreen before bed… we don’t want to imagine the dry cleaning bill of her pillows otherwise.

If you’re yet to see Wicked, then what are you waiting for? It’s based on the acclaimed novel by Gregory Maguire that re-imagined the stories and characters created by L Frank Baum in The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz, Wicked tells the incredible untold story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two girls who first meet as sorcery students: the blonde, popular Glinda, and the misunderstood, shy, green Elphaba.

When the pair encounter the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their fortunes see them embark on very different paths, and their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
