One of the songs written by Dave Stewart for forthcoming West End show Ghost The Musical will be released as a single on 22 June to benefit the charity Stand Up To Cancer.
The song, entitled With You, is sung by the show’s leads Richard Fleeshman and Caissie Levy who play Sam and Molly, the characters made famous by Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore in the 1990 film upon which the new musical is based.
The single is part of a new collaboration between the show – which comes to London’s Piccadilly theatre the day the song is released – and the charity, of which Stewart is a long-standing ambassador. A gala performance this autumn is one of a number of other fundraising events planned by the show.
Eurythmics guitarist Stewart, who composed the music to Ghost The Musical along with Glen Ballard, said: “What better mediums than music and the theatre to convey a message, as music lovers and theatregoers contribute to cancer research and offer hope for the millions of people surviving with cancer.”
The show’s producer, Colin Ingram, added: “Many of the songs from our show speak about the loss of a loved one and with our composer Dave Stewart as a major creative force on the charity’s team and the leading man of the original film, Patrick Swayze, losing his life to cancer, the partnership between the show and the charity seemed a natural fit.”
Ghost The Musical – which is currently playing in Manchester prior to the West End – tells the story of Sam, who is mugged and killed one night while walking home with his girlfriend Molly. Seeing that Molly’s life is also in danger, Sam remains stuck in limbo, and tries to communicate with her through an eccentric medium.
The charity single can be downloaded from iTunes or the show’s website from 22 June.
