Get your denim out, your hair clippers ready and your anti-establishment punk rock attitude prepped – down with the man! – because American Idiot, the explosive Tony Award-winning musical based on the hit album by Green Day, is back in town.

Returning to the Arts Theatre for a limited season from 8 July, and led by double platinum selling artist Newton Faulkner and X Factor finalist Amelia Lily, this is a show turbo-charged with the sheer scintillation and musical spark of Green Day’s 2004 Grammy Award-winning album, including ’21 Guns’, ‘Wake Me Up When September Ends’ and ‘American Idiot’ (of course).

American Idiot features a book by Green Day’s lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong and Michael Mayer, telling the story of three boyhood friends, each searching for meaning in a post 9/11 world.

As you can tell from these behind-the-scenes images, the production features no shortage of rock-fuelled exuberance, colour and energy, particularly when the maniacal St Jimmy (Lucas Rush) is involved – now there’s a guy to invite to a party. There’s also plenty of hard-hitting emotion and reflection on display, in keeping with Green Day’s fervent candour as a voice for the modern age – albeit often through lyrics best screamed out loud.

All set to rock out? Then you can book your tickets to American Idiot, playing at the Arts Theatre from 8 July to 25 September, through us here. Peace.
