Young musical theatre stars Richard Fleeshman and Caissie Levy will appear as Ghost The Musical’s fated lovers in the forthcoming Piccadilly theatre production. Joining the pair on stage are Andrew Langtree and the previously announced West End regular Sharon D Clarke.
Based on the 1990 film starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore, Oscar-winning writer Bruce Joel Rubin has adapted his original screenplay for stage, with direction from Matthew Warchus and music and lyrics by Dave Stewart and Glen Ballard.
Ghost The Musical tells the story of Sam (Fleeshman) who, after being murdered in the street, finds himself trapped between this world and the next. Desperately attempting to communicate with his girlfriend Molly (Levy), Sam discovers a phoney psychic (Clarke) is the only one who can hear him. Together they discover Molly is at threat from Sam’s murderers and attempt to save her.
Fleeshman made his West End debut earlier this year in the Savoy theatre’s Legally Blonde The Musical. The actor is best known for his long-running role in ITV soap Coronation Street which he appeared in for four years. After winning ITV’s talent show Soapstar Superstar, Fleeshman won a record deal and released an album in 2007.
His co-star Levy was recently seen in the Broadway and West End production of Hair as leading lady Sheila. The Canadian actress’s credits also include starring roles in Hairspray, Rent and Wicked.
Mamma Mia! star Langtree joins the cast as Sam’s colleague Carl. As well as West End performances in Blood Brothers and Fame, the actor’s credits include extensive work at the Manchester Exchange Theatre, with productions including The Glass Menagerie, London Assurance and Six Degrees Of Separation, as well as roles in The Rose Tattoo at the National Theatre and television appearances in Coronation Street, Doctors and Emmerdale.
Ghost The Musical opens on 15 July, with previews from 22 June, and is currently booking until 28 January 2012.
