Flashdance to close in January

Published 23 November 2010

Flashdance The Musical has announced it will close on 15 January, just three months after opening at the Shaftesbury theatre. The production had been booking to the end of February.

Starring Victoria Hamilton-Barritt and Matt Willis, the stage adaptation of the 1983 iconic film tells the story of 18-year-old Alex, a welder by day and flashdancer by night. Former Busted singer Willis made his West End debut when the show opened on 14 October as Alex’s boss and lover who helps her to achieve her ultimate dancing dream.

Alongside the obligatory 80s leg warmers and bleached denim, the production features songs from the original film including Maniac, Gloria and Flashdance (What A Feeling!).

In a statement confirming the show’s early closure, the producers of Flashdance said: “The West End production of Flashdance at the Shaftesbury theatre will close on 15 January 2011. The producers would like to thank all those involved for their phenomenal hard work on the show.”

Customers who have purchased tickets for performances from 17 January 2011 onwards should contact the box office or ticketing agent for a full refund.

No productions have been announced as yet to follow Flashdance The Musical at the Shaftesbury theatre.
