Phone rings, door chimes, and in comes… Company production pictures! Marianne Elliott’s radical revival of Sondheim’s masterpiece has been wowing audiences over at the Gielgud Theatre ahead of its official opening next week.

Brilliantly centred by Rosalie Craig as Bobbie – the first time the role has been played as a woman – Company is a hilarious marital musical comedy. The show also stars Patti LuPone in her first West End performance in over two decades – as Joanne, along with Mel Giedroyc as Sarah, Jonathan Bailey as Jamie, George Blagden as PJ, Matthew Seadon-Young as Theo, amongst others.

And with Sondheim’s iconic songs – The Ladies Who Lunch, Being Alive, Side By Side and You Could Drive A Person Crazy – to boot, it’s proving the perfect evening’s company for many a theatregoer. The show is booking until 22 December.

Company first premiered on Broadway in 1970 and was nominated for a record setting fourteen Tony Awards, winning six. It premiered in London in 1972 and was revived in 1995, by Sam Mendes at the Donmar Warehouse, later transferring to the Albery Theatre, starring Adrian Lester as Bobby.

Company writer Stephen Sondheim is widely regarded as one of the greatest composers and lyricists of all time.
