Stars including Dominic West, Hayley Atwell, James Norton and Lindsay Duncan have joined the cast of Shakespeare’s Globe’s ambitious The Complete Walk project.

An incredible line-up of famed performers from stage and screen will take on Shakespeare’s most iconic roles to film a series of 37 short films that will be screened across the world on 23 and 24 April to mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death.

The 10 minute films will be shot in the original settings Shakespeare imagined in his writing, from West filming in Rome to play Coriolanus and Simon Russell Beale taking on Timon in Greece’s capital city Athens to Jonathan Pryce and Phoebe Pryce playing Shylock and Jessica in Venice’s historic Jewish Ghetto.

There will also be performances filmed closer to home, as James Norton tackles Richard II in Westminster Hall and Zawe Ashton, Joseph Marcell and Kenneth Cranham perform scenes from King Lear on the Cliffs of Dover.

The full cast, who will be captured by Shakespeare’s Globe film crew who will fly around the world from Liverpool to Santa Barbara for the project, also includes Peter Capaldi, Olivia Williams, Meera Syal, Jamie Parker, Danny Sapani, Mel Giedroyc, Aidan Gillen, Joshua McGuire, Paul Chahidi, Pauline McLynn, Tom Burke and many more still to be confirmed.

The Complete Walk is just one of numerous events, projects, exhibitions and debates due to take place this year to commemorate 400 years since the Bard’s death as part of Shakespeare Lives 2016, a global celebration on the staggering influence the playwright has had on our culture and society.
