General Manager of the Bush Theatre will take over as Executive Director at the East London venue in October.
It has been announced today that Deborah Sawyerr will take over as Executive Director of the Theatre Royal, Stratford East in October 2016. Sawyerr has enjoyed a successful career in the theatre industry, including roles as a general manager and production manager at theatres across the UK (including her most recent position at London’s Bush Theatre) as well as extensive work as a stage Manager and as a stage management tutor at LAMDA. Sawyerr has also been a board member at arts organisations including the Independent Theatre Council and Shape and is currently a board member at Upswing.
On accepting the role of Executive Director, Sawyerr said “I am delighted to be joining Kerry and the team at Theatre Royal Stratford East, one of the most diverse and inclusive theatres in London. The staff at Theatre Royal Stratford East are absolutely world class and include the best of new and established talent. It is such an honour to be chosen to continue the great work of Mary Caws and help build the theatre’s future.”
