Dayle Hodge and Jersey Boys swings

Day in the life: Jersey Boys’ Dayle Hodge

Oh what a night it could be for Jersey Boys on 3 April. The long-running hit musical about Frankie Valli and his Four Seasons bandmates is in the running for the Magic Radio Audience Award at the Olivier Awards 2016 with MasterCard.

Will the boys walk like a man all the way to the Royal Opera House’s stage to collect one of the coveted statuettes? We don’t know. But we celebrated their place on the shortlist by asking new Alternate Frankie, Dayle Hodge, to chart his day in photos for us. We discovered a world full of tea and more gaming than we were expecting:

How do you like your eggs in the morning? I start most days off with eggs and a bagel, but most importantly with a cup of English Tea.

Me and my housemate are FIFA mad, so we’ll usually have a game or five before I leave for work.

A quick journey on the train is normally accompanied by music. It can differ between lots of styles. Sometimes it might be Bon Jovi, occasionally a bit of Bieber and sometimes even a musical #stagey

Once I get off the tube I take a stroll down one of my favourite streets in central London.

When I get to the theatre I’ll have a quick chat with Jamie at stage door before he gives me the key to my dressing room.

I then head down to the stage for vocal warm up with this dude, Mark Smith. I always try to say hello to everyone at warm up as I don’t get to see everyone during the show as it’s so busy.

Me and the swing boys have a cuppa and put the world to rights before we get ready for the show.

Sometimes we’ll even have a game of 10,000 which was taught to us by choreographer Danny Austin. As you can see it gets everybody concentrating.

The most important part of the day: shaving! All the boys have to be clean shaven in this show to fit in with the period that it’s set.

Next, I get a visit from Elaine who puts my wig on for me. I’ve named the wig Curly Sue for obvious reasons.

Finally my wonderful dresser Soula will pop in to put on the Frankie identity bracelet and check everything is ok. I’d be lost without her, she’s fab. Then it’s time to head down to the stage!

Jersey Boys is booking at Piccadilly Theatre until 23 October. You can book tickets through us here.
